Rudeness is Awful
Rude People Piss Me Off!!!
As we make our way through life it becomes apparent that one aspect is unavoidable. Rude people are everywhere and unrelenting. Take a left turn and there’s one. Turn right, there’s another one. They’re everywhere, up the road and down the road. What is one to do?
I consider myself to be a “nice guy” that is rarely rude. There have been many instances in my 30 years that I have had to be an a**hole. For the most part though, I prefer to treat people with dignity and respect. I am not talking about the occasional person you run into that is in a bad mood about something. That happens to everyone, most of the time these people keep to themselves. I am referring to the ones that a.) lash out at everyone they come into contact with and b.) the ones that offer unsolicited advice.
Let’s take a look at example A.
Once in a while you can expect to come into contact with the person that treats you like dirt. This person is generally upset with their life and takes it out on a happy unsuspecting nice person. Why?
In short answer to that one, I think it is because it makes them feel better than you. Of course this is completely wrong. Whenever you come into contact with this one just remember that they are having a hard time with life. Also remember that these people pretty much suck at life and take the last laugh.
To be completely fair though, I personally have been mean to a stranger because I was having a bad day. So I sucked at life at that point.
Let’s move on to example B.
I work in an industry that is presents a new challenge everyday, sometimes three or four times a day. I am a mechanic in the Army. I have been in the service for six years so I have an inclusive knowledge of my job. Plus, I have a mechanical aptitude and an ability to figure sh** out. The thing I hate is when your working on a problem and someone comes up, and starts telling you how to do your job. It doesn’t happen to me too much anymore though. My solution…
Solving this problem is easy. Look at the person with a pissed off look on your face and say, “Here you do it, since you’re such an expert!” That usually shuts them up. I find that it is easier to “sound” like an expert than to actually be one. The true expert is the one from which I seek advice.
The final thing that irks me is the person that tells you to do something that you are either already doing, or fixin’ to do. Ha, just look at them and laugh at them. That will make them feel like the complete idiot they have already proven to be.
In closing, I apologize but when you are faced with someone who is so totally wrapped up in their own greatness, it is hard to break through to them and make them realize their fallacies. You could be blunt by asking them, “How does it feel?” When they say what, you respond with, “To be a (expletive) idiot?”
This may either get you fired or punched so use it at your own risk!

Cool Hub, Wesley. My wife is quite skilled at killing the Type A (as described above)...with kindness. If they don't turn into nice folks (which is asking way too much for some of them), she makes 'em too uncomfortable to hang around for long and they leave. They WANT to piss her off, and when they CAN'T, it messes with their heads something fierce.
You are quite a humble person and I am the same way!! Sometimes I am an expert but I certainly do not flaunt it.:)
I think the best comeback I ever read was by pgrundy: If I could buy you for what you are worth and then sell you for what you think you are worth....I would be as rich as Goldman Sachs!"
Great hub! Rude people piss me off too! However...I have been know to make attitude adjustments. :)
Alas, we often bump into people like this...not reacting to their rudeness is probably one way of putting a spoke in their wheel!
I don't like rude people either, but I also don't like confrontation so I would not be able to put some of your solutions into practice, I would probably just smile and say thank you, how pathetic is that Lol
Only to walk a mile in another person's shoes...Life is tough...Rudeness is rude...:O) Hugs
interesting hub
If I would put a bumper sticker on my car it would say "I DON'T LIKE RUDE PEOPLE" i have seen them, I just emailed you for addresses to write soldiers
dori
Rude people are just socially challenged, and need our love and understanding, and maybe a whack upside the head. Thanks for illuminatiing this topic, Wesley!
I needed this today Thank you thank you!~
Interesting Hub. One of the reasons I moved to the south from the west was because politeness was expected. In the west at a middle school after telling a student to do the response would physiologically impossible. At the High School I teach at in Georgia when asking a student to do anything it is always yes sir. That is so cool.
By the way I can tell you are from the south. Only southerners use the term "fixin"
I completely agree, mean people suck!
Good Hub! I run into both types all the time. I have pretty much just learned to ignore their ignorance and be who I am, nice! It is hard sometimes but I don't want to bring myself down to their level. My father is rude everyday and he lives with my husband, mother and I. I have learned to tune him out! My mother tells me what to do every day, while I am doing it or as I am preparing to do it, I just smile and say ok no problem! It won't help for me to get angry, it won't change a thing! I asked God a long time ago to teach me to be patient! Oh boy, He is teaching me patience, He has seen that I am in a position where I have to use it :)! Watch out what you ask for! You might get it in an unexpected way !
What if you run into a Type A and a Type B in the same person :-)? Seriously -- this is a wonderful reminder that we should live by the Golden Rule. Treat people the way we wish to be treated ourselves.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! MM
Great hub! I love it, but it's sadly true. I hate rude people and say this nearly every day. What will we do? Hugs
wesley we all have our bad days like you Indicated In example one . I just hope to redeem myself at a future date when I go off on someone . As a matter of fact I have to call an associate at work this weekend because I let him have It . Even though I felt right In my viewpoint {as I always do ] I was wrong In the way I expressed It. So I am not going to tell him I am sorry , that does not carry much weight . What I will say Is I was wrong because I was. That breaks down a lot of fences and melts a lot of Ice between me and other people In my life . Good hub
LOL, yes, there is no getting away from these people sometimes. :D
When I was working the service counter at a travel service company, we had more than our our share of affluent, self-important, rude a-holes. Our stock answer for the "Do you know who I am?" question was, "Hey guys, call the EMT's, we got another amnesia case here!"
Great hub...and LOVE the pictures. especailly the kitty one lol. And yes I am like you...rude ppl piss me off too.
People in Category A are akin to schoolyard bullies who never quite grew out of it. Thankfully, in the adult world it's easier to make them look like the jerks they are.
Someone once wrote a short essay called "In Praise of Intolerance"--for rudeness, bigotry, etc. Wish I could find it.
Great hub!
Maybe they just need to poop at that moment.
ha.
It it is you doing it, it is called rude. If it is me doing it, it is called being blunt! I just hate those who continually ask me "How are you today?", then, of course, they really don't want to know or they are just being "polite". I am from the south and I was raised to be polite, so therefore I never ask, "How are you today?" because I really don't have the time or inclination to listen.
My boss tells me I'm rude. Why? Because I yell at dumb nurses who make more than I do, they have a nursing degree and license, and yet, believe it or not, they CAN'T SCREW THE LID DOWN ON A URINE SAMPLE!
See, I yell even online! hahahaha I am soooo rude!
What should I do as I am staying at my brother in law house and he sometimes he can be rude. I feel bad every time and I just don't know how to react. I am pursuing my postgraduate education full time and by staying with him, I could save some money. It really hurt sometimes and it affects my studies. Please help
Wesley, thank you so much for your advice. I will find the right time to talk him about how I feel. It may works. There may be something I did that caused him to act that way. Or maybe if there isn't, at least it will make him realize that there is no reason for him to take it out on me. Thanks again.
Thank god I found this, very interesting...
Simple Question, would we know kindness, if not for rudeness? Or would we know happiness, without misery? For if without adversary, how can we know the goodness of the world and its godliness? We couldn't and if these things did not exist, there could not be reason for creation, and therefore, the world would have simply never existed.
I live in Ukraine and I must confess that in my experience alot of americans are generally rude. When some send a friend's request, i add them and we get talking, but when I do the same, 100% of them will start asking why, "Do I know you?", "Who the hell are you?" and infant more annoying instances are centered on this statement "I cannot issue you a visa" Even without making my first interaction with them...
Well, maybe its due to past experiences nevertheless, stereotype is a disease! And even with this,I am still open minded, that is why i said "from my experience, many americans are rude". If it were to be the other way round with this same people I have come across I am sure they wouldn't have added the first part of the sentence before the comma and instead of using 'many', they may use 'all'.
Wesley,
When I started reading his I had to smile because it sounded like the beginning of a hub I published about 2 weeks ago..."Slappin' Some Sense Into 'Em". I think you'd like it.
I worked as a bartender and "cooler" for 8 years and used up every bit of diplomacy I possessed. I never hit anyone and never was hit, but I could foresee the day coming when someone got in a lucky shot and I'd "lose it".
I have become less tolerant as I have aged and do not suffer fools or rude people without bringing their shortcomings to their attention.
If I am a Grumpy Old Man I have earned it!
CP
I usually want to be rude back...but I learned that gets me no where. So I just ignore them and smile. I don't like being rude to people even they're rude....
Thanks 4 the words of wisdom, I would love 2 meet u, some one on my level!, nice 2 know that it doesn't only bother me, doesn't cost anything to b polite, love the focus quote thanks x
Very nice article. Thanks a lot wesleycox. You enlighten a lot of people and bring change. It brings so much awareness. I am trying to put up with my mom and fellow colleagues who are rude for many years I am still trying to figure out a perfect way to evade rudeness as it upsets my entire day don't know why. But now I am finally figuring out how to do it i.e half way through. Looking forward to you for more articles.

Example B is my wife, she is always telling me how to do something, even if I am tearing an engine apart or building a deck to cooking. There is only 2 things she does not interfere with anymore, my writing or my painting on canvas and she is always asking me how to spell something. LOL I do love her tho'.
