Lonesome: A Poem
67Still here for another day
I know I told you all that I am leaving. I still am, but with a plane delay that has lasted longer than I anticipated I couldn't help but write a new poem that I would like to share with you. So please forgive my inability to stay away after I told you I was leaving. I hope I get to leave soon and get back to my family, but in the meantime here is a poem I wrote in my loneliness. I started to explore implications of loneliness and came up with this. I hope you like it.
Lonesome
I stand alone in a crowded room
they bump and push me
no excuses
no sorry's
The emptiness crushes, squeezing me
into dreaded anticipation of impending doom.
The midnight whistle blows
signaling the start of a new day
The silence covers the Earth
In a heavy blanket of suffocation
The weight is more than I can bear
Gotta stop living without a care.
Sunrise lifts the fog of darkness
Cicadas cry their lonesome songs
A pure plead for an answer
something, anything
they get their answer
I get the silence of my thoughts.
I stand on my porch
people move, they pass
without a look, not even a glance.
I smile, I wave
to my neighbor Dave
with no response he leaves.
The empty can rattles the most
I shout in silence
and cry with dry eyes
no one will hear
no one will care
slowly I let my nightmares go
No visitors in years
even the mailman doesn't come
I'm beyond redemption
There's no saving me
Alone I entered this world
why should I expect anything else?
I grow colder
as the day grows older
The sun heats the Earth
but not me
with a shiver, vision fades
I exhale, from this world I pass.
Alone.

This is very heartaching! Departing can be cruel wesley. I wish you the best and take care.
Way to go Wes another great one, safe travels my friend...
The very best of luck wesley - what a wonderful turnaround for you and your family. I'm hoping you're lonely no more. A wonderful poignant piece to (temporarily) exit on.
Good wishes to you all :):):)
Take good care
"as the day grows older
The sun heats the Earth
but not me
with a shiver, vision fades
I exhale, from this world I pass."
Resonates deeply with me Wesley. Good journey. Be sure to check back in with us on the other side.
Hi wesleycox
You seem to find such inspiration and you have the talent to write as you feel. It's great that you can put into words what you're thinking inside, and by using imagination. I find it hard sometimes to be able to put things into words the way I want them to come across.
All the best of happiness to you and your family.
hiya back on line my computer was not working. Hope you have got home by now.... x
Loneliness is but a moment that will pass. I hope you have a great time @ home. Thank you! :)
First...I knew you would be back! =) It will be hard for you to stay away from us! he he
And also, this was fantastic. I can imagine you sitting there in a crowded airport waiting for your turn to board the plane....I think when we are travelling alone, especially when you are so anxious about where you are going you can feel very alone in the world sitting there just watching the world going on all around you as you sit patiently for your turn!
ARE YOU HOME WITH YOUR LOVELY FAMILY GIVE US A SHOUT
XXXXXXXXXX

You are never alone, my friend, as much as you may think. We're all in this together. Although I may be wrong about this being an autobiographical piece of written work, I do understand the artistry and imagery behind it. We're all behind you, Wes. Please keep your chin up and thank you for a wonderful yet dark poem.
